Top 10 Body Care Tips For Cooler Days Ahead

Caring for our skin doesn't stop at the face or d├ęcolletage. Here are 10 tips on how to care for the rest of our body during the cooler months ahead
(most of the tips can be practiced year-round)

  1. Avoid hot showers as they can remove lubricating skin oils.
  2. Moisturize after your shower, while skin is still damp, doing this will lock in moisture.
  3. Avoid moisturizing with chemical-laden ingredients, which can cause irritation and itching. Personally, I keep it simple by sealing in moisture with healthy oils, such as almond or avocado. You may add your favorite essential oil creating a lovely scented body moisturizer.
  4. Retain moisture in your home with a humidifier.
  5. Drink plenty of water (2-3 liters daily)-If you do not like the taste of plain water, click here for some yummy-flavored healthy water recipes
  6. Eat foods which will maintain internal hydration (water-rich fruits and vegetables)
  7. Add an essential Omega Fatty Acids to your diet, it may help protect your skin from sun damage, and assist in retaining skin moisture and impede inflammation.
  8. Carry or have access to a good-quality hand cream and lip balm with an SPF 20 or higher; reapply several times a day.
  9. Purchase an inexpensive refreshing facial mist or toner to spray on your skin several times during the day (one of my favorite products is Rosewater with Glycerin).
  10. Skin Brushing-Dry skin brushing is ideal anytime of year but especially when our skin tends toward the drier side, during cooler months. Click here to read further information about the benefits and technique of skin brushing.
